Our clients wanted to create an open, welcoming space from their previously closed-off and compartmentalized ranch house. The flexibility to go from everyday use to large family gathering and hosting abilities was an important feature of the space, and the ability to draw the surrounding landscape into the home.
Panoramic glass pulls in sweeping views from the North, West, and South, while materials like charred cypress, walnut, white oak and douglas fir marry the internal warmth with the natural environment outside. A covered porch extends the living room out, allowing clients to fully enjoy the home’s location nestled into the hillside.

Design is the “attempt to bring nature, houses, and human beings together in a higher unity.”

- Ludwig Mies van der Rohe
