BRIEF
This 1988 contemporary home originally designed by Architect L. Brink in the Matthaei Farm Community is sited around the Matthaei Botanical Gardens. With an appreciation for the original architecture, the homeowners wanted to maintain the form for this main floor renovation.
To capture natural light, for this heavily shaded home, long vertical elements from the existing architecture were repeated in the placement of new windows and doors. Using a sun study, we strategically added eleven skylights to help wash the space with light.
Throughout the interior spaces, we developed a contemporary palette using natural materials including white oak, concrete and raw metal. Several elements, including cladding six interior-exterior columns with thin concrete panels from Dekko, custom metal detailing throughout the kitchen, entrance and staircase gives this home an updated, modern identity.
